Jade Egg Essentials

Lesson 2 Chapter 1 Module 1

Jade Egg Essentials

A Little Bit of History and Context

“Taoist sexual practices evolved in ancient China from a combination of elements, including the ancient, deeply feminine, shamanic tradition, medical practice and scholarly philosophy.

Minke De Vos

Ancient Taoist tantra is a system of health, healing and energy – which INCLUDES working specifically with sexual energy, but isn’t actually limited to sex. (In fact, the deeper you go into the systems and philosophies of Taoist tantra the more incredible it becomes.)

The roots of the Taoist sexual arts go back 5000 years! How amazing that they survive and thrive still and have reached the West too for all of us to benefit from.

Some of the oldest sex manuals in the world are Chinese – The Handbooks of Sex and Tao of Love Coupling – written by the legendary Yellow Emperor. And these sexual secrets were kept closely guarded by the ancients, who were of the viewpoint that Taoist sexual practices were simply too powerful to be unleashed onto the public without guidance.

Luckily for us, since the Eastern tantric traditions began to move West from India during the 50s and 60s, with Chinese Taoist master Mantak Chia eventually moving to North America to teach in the 1980s, these traditions have now opened up and we can tap into them as a valuable resource for health, happiness and sexual well being. The benefits of a jade egg practice are many – and we shall cover them more specifically throughout the course.

Profound respect for the depth and power of these practices is needed however. Reverence, and the cultivated capacity to pull back from your sexual expansion, calibrate and ground so that your deepening happens well.

(But don't worry, we will get to this!)

Jade Egg Information

Your Jade Egg

Your Jade Egg is made from the highest quality jade available – pure 100% nephrite jade. What makes it exceptional is that it is structurally dense – meaning it won’t crack or chip easily and can therefore be kept very clean. You have a medium sized egg which measures 43mm x 30mm and it is drilled horizontally so that it can be easily stringed if needed.

Your Jade Egg Practice

For your Jade Egg exercises I recommend you have to hand:

1. Your clean Jade Egg
2. An oil or lube such as coconut oil or almond oil
3. String–un-waxed, un-flavoured dental floss or silk thread

4. An uninterrupted space
5. Music to help the mood if this works for you.

How to Take Care of Your Jade Egg

It’s really important to follow the instructions below carefully and also every time you use your Jade Egg. Just like anything you might regularly insert internally like a sex toy, hygiene is a paramount consideration and you want to make sure you keep the inner ecology of your pussy healthy.

To Prepare Your Egg for the First Time

You only need to do this once, but you should give your Jade Egg a proper sterilisation before you use it initially as follows:

Place your Jade Egg in lightly boiling water and let it rest there for about ten minutes. You want to make sure that the boil doesn’t get too vigorous. After ten minutes you can take your Jade Egg out to cool and never insert it before cooling it sufficiently.

Cleaning Your Jade Egg After Practice

After use you can put a few drops of iodine or tea tree oil in a glass of water and drop your Jade Egg in. You can then take it out and run it under warm water – being sure not to miss cleaning out the hole - and store it for its next use.

You can also rinse to before inserting in your next practice – and one way that I recommend is to pour warm water from a kettle over it to do so. Obviously, you need to make sure that it is not too hot to insert it. But having your Jade Egg slightly warm feels so much better than cold.

Contraindications

With the resurgence of Jade Egg practices over several decades – with no known health issues or implications reported – you can feel assured that your Jade Egg practice will be sexy AND safe. However, the following are recommended to be contra-indicated in Jade Egg practice and so I recommend you refrain from using:

If you are pregnant or think you might be.

If you are menstruating.

If you have a bladder, vaginal or rectal prolapse - with these conditions the practices can be done gently but you will need to check with your GP first.

If you have a vaginal, uterine or pelvic infection or medical condition.

If you want to use the egg anally - basically don't! It's gonna get lost up there.

If you have an IUD, it is best to not use the weightlifting or string resistance practices and to check with your GP if the Jade Egg is suitable for you
